Friends of Wallkill River National Wildlife Refuge is an independent, non-profit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. Donations to the Friends are welcome and are tax-deductible. The Friends group is funded through tax-deductible donations, memberships, grants, and sales from the Friends Nature Store.

If you have an item you would like to donate, please email FRIENDS PRESIDENT first to make arrangements. Below are some items we will accept for program use, used book sale, and field work at the refuge.

Volunteer Opportunities

The Friends and the refuge have opportunities for people interested in contributing their time and talents and gain new experiences. Some of the possibilities include:

  • Program assistance – preparing for an event, helping during the event (greeting visitors, assisting with a children’s activity, leading a walk…)
  • Friends’ Gift Shop – assist with sales at the shop
  • Monitor wildlife – clean and check nest boxes for bluebirds and martins
  • Trail maintenance – check trails, trim vegetation, remove invasive species
  • Gardening – assist with weeding and planting
